CERRO PEDERNAL
CAMP AND CLIMB GEORGI O'KEEFFE'S FAVORITE MOUNTAIN.

'Pedernal' means flint in Spanish, and this flat-topped butte in northern New Mexico has long been a source of agate. Natives living nearby during the Pueblo Period (1303-1324 AD) used Pedernal’s stone for arrowheads, scrapers, knives, and spearpoints. Today, the butte is a well-known landmark in the northern Jemez Mountains, and gained further noteriety when artist Georgia O’Keefe lived nearby and painted the peak. Definitely climb the peak if you can, -the views are awesome and theres a cool cave to rest in at the top.

We suggest camping off of the remote roads near road 99 southwest of Youngsville. It's super quiet and you can let the dogs run free.

Don't forget to check fire restrictions in the area before heading out!
